Weavers miss out on away win due to another late leveller

A 69-mile trip east took The Village into Bottesford last night facing a team that sit around us in the table made this a huge one.

It wasn’t a barnstormer early doors, most of the time the ball was stuck in the middle of the pitch.

Long balls regularly drifted behind and more than fifteen seconds in possession was rare for either side.

The more George Doyle got into the game for Golcar the more joy we found, and he found the opener after half an hour.

Rico used his electric pace to latch onto a Havenhand through ball, who was excellent on full debut, then pulling it back finding our top scorer who had two bites at the cherry before picking out the corner.

That goal struck up a Golcar storm, various efforts as we closed in on the break were saved or wide.

The best effort came from a venomous corner swung in from the right which was flicked on at some pace and somehow rocketed off the post and away.

Going in at the break a couple of goals up would've topped what was a very professional first half from The Weavers, it was a performance of control and solidity, something that's been lacking over the last few matches.

The Poachers came out quickly for the second half, an early effort drilled across goal went just past the post but Golcar carried over lots of that good first half work to the second and found a second just shy of the hour mark through that man again, Doyley with another two and his twelfth already of the season.

The assist came via Callum Petch on the right who put in a pinpoint low delivery right into our number nine's path.

At this point in the game it seemed certain that a big three points would be making the trip back with us, Bottesford had other ideas pulling one back shortly after when Clay Bryant headed home from a poorly dealt with cross.

For the next twenty minutes very little happened, a few half-chances for either side but towards the last five the hosts started to grab control of it, not letting us out at all.

Waves of Bottesford attacks kept coming and with conceding late goals being such an issue for The Village this season you sort of knew what was coming next.

Okera Simmonds scored in the 95th minute to snatch a point, pouncing on a ball into the area and side footing home.

Unfortunately more late heartbreak means we don't move up a place, we now sit a point behind Albion Sports in 16th as Bottesford rise up to within one point of us.

Two more away games are on the horizon and thankfully they are much closer, first Pensitone Church on the 12th and then Campion on the 15th, both teams are in and around our league position so all to play for!

Up The Village!
