Golcar United are again delighted to announce former Weavers goalkeeper, Graham McLachlan (who many of you will know as Frankie), will be joining Joe Skarz as assistant head coach.
Frankie is well known to Golcar United fans; firstly playing many years at then rivals, Bay Athletic, in our days in the district leagues and then more recently as a Weaver in the twilight of his playing days.
McLachlan has also turned out for clubs such Emley AFC and Yorkshire Amateurs, clubs steeped in non-league pedigree; winning trophies and 3 memorable promotions along the way. Frankie assures us his most memorable promotion is the one he achieved with Golcar United on that famous day in Holker! (No Sippy, No Party!- he adds).
Upon leaving Golcar United, Frankie played at local Huddersfield club Berry Brow but called it a day last season to spend more time supporting his nephew who is on his own footballing journey at Sheffield United.
We caught up with Frankie:
What is it about Golcar United that brings you back; we were always aware of your presence at matches since leaving as a player?
Obviously things changed quite suddenly with Ash and Gav departed (who leave a fantastic legacy, may I add) and once (Joe) Skarzy and Ben (Senior) wanted me to be involved, then it didn't take much though for me to say yes! I absolutely loved it as a player here; from the lads in the changing room to all those behind the scenes.
What will your role include as assistant head coach?
My role will be whatever is required! Joe and I see the game pretty much the same, so supporting him and being another set of eyes will be my main responsibility. But obviously, as my playing time as a goalkeeper then I will also be passing on my knowledge and experience on that front; I feel I helped Harry Stead with his game when I was here previously and will continue to do that.
What are your ambitions as part of the management team for the club?
My ambitions for this season a really simple... to finish 1st! It's an old cliche but it's the only ambition I've entered every season with. Will it be easy? Far from it. But what I can assure you is we will work hard to achieve that and try get into that winning habit early doors, added to the backing and support the Village faithful give on a weekly basis, then why can't we achieve that?!
Thank you for your time, Frankie. We can assure you the Village faithful will be behind both Joe and yourself without question. Welcome back!
