MATCH PREVIEW | Frickley Athletic (A)

MATCH PREVIEW | Frickley Athletic (A)

Samuel Dearnley12 Sep - 17:00

The Village look to bounce back in Doncaster tomorrow against Frickley Athletic.

A tough loss to take against Eccleshill United on Wednesday night leaves us second bottom.

But amid a decent spell before that, hope remains we can get back to winning ways at The Salus Stadium on Saturday.

On top of that, Golcar played a really strong first half on the night, but squandered big chances.

We were unable to replicate that performance in the second half where we returned to a display similar to what we saw right at the beginning of the season.

Our struggles to create chances returned, and once Eccleshill scored there didn't seem to be a way back.

Those scoring problems need to be put to bed soon for us to rise up the table.

I wouldn't be expecting a thriller on Saturday with Frickley also having only scored seven so far this season.

The Blues, founded in 1908, have enjoyed a good start to their season sitting in 9th after narrowly surviving relegation last year just six points above the drop zone.

Angolan forward Luis Afonso-Ferreira is their top scorer this season with three goals, nearly half his side's total.

He played for Albion Sports last year but was never on the scoresheet too often, something he's seemingly addressed this year, his pace and trickery mean he will prove a difficult man to stop.

But we have our own pacy wingers for them to contend with in Rico Kilbourn and Bedeau who have shone in recent games.

Those two at their best could be decisive in what promises to be a tight contest.

Unfortunately, we will be without recent returnee Alfie Wilkinson — something Frickley will surely be delighted to hear as the forward has four goals in four appearances against them.

Another big away day for Golcar and we could really do with a point or three.

We look forward to seeing all of you who travel over.

Up The Village!
