MATCH PREVIEW | Golcar United vs Eccleshill United

MATCH PREVIEW | Golcar United vs Eccleshill United

Jack Howarth19 Dec - 17:30

'Twas the last game before Christmas!

Following on from our hard earned point against Campion AFC on Wednesday night, a clash against Eccleshill United awaits.

Although it was a goalless draw, there was a lot of positive signs on display for The Village. Joe Skarz's side will be looking at building on such a solid performance.

Most notably, the backline and Hugo Bennett stood out making some vital interventions to keep the all important clean sheet, our first since November 22nd. The young defence showed some great maturity to keep us in the game and will be looking to repeat the feat and be like Scrooge at the back, giving nothing away!

Tomorrow offers up an opportunity for Golcar to finally to put to bed this five game winless run that we find ourselves on. Despite some super performances, the results just aren't falling our way.

The visitors come into the contest winless in their last three games, so it could end up being a tight affair with both sides wanting to put an end to poor form.

Last time we clashed with The Eagles, it was a tight contest that ended in a 1-0 loss. Joshua McKiernon nodded home from a corner at the start of the second half, which ended up being our only defeat in September.

Similar to ourselves, Eccleshill also have a young goalkeeper who has come through an EFL clubs academy. Oliver Riva came through at Accrington Stanley, before making the switch to Huddersfield Town. He has featured in all but one game for the visitors this season.

The Eagles also have football league pedigree at the back in Ben Gordon. The full back has featured for England at youth level and has featured for a plethora of EFL clubs. The Chelsea youth prospect's experience will set up an interesting clash with our tricky wingers.

There is no denying it will be a exciting opportunity for both sides to impress and get their seasons back on track before Christmas. It would be great to see as many of you as possible down at the Skye Direct Stadium as you 'Step Into Christmas' with us and hopefully we can rock the night away with three points!

Please note there will be a pitch inspection at 11am tomorrow morning. We will update accordingly with the outcome as the referee makes his decision.

Up The Village!
