MATCH PREVIEW | Golcar United vs Sheffield FC (A)

MATCH PREVIEW | Golcar United vs Sheffield FC (A)

Jack Howarth28 Nov - 13:00

Another away day ahead for The Weavers.

Leading on from the disappointing exit in the Third Round of the NCEL League Cup on Tuesday night, against Frickley Athletic, Golcar will be looking to bounce back against Sheffield FC.

Despite hopes to progress further in the cup, that wasn't the case.

Joe Skarz was forced into making a few changes to the side on the night, with regular starters Rico Kilbourn, Kiero Lawrence and Daniel Naidole all absent.

After what was a underwhelming performance, The Village's focus shifts back to league action.

Saturdays fixture will be the fifth away game this month for The Weavers, which has proven to be a tough test so far. Unlucky for us, with the hosts sitting in fourth place in the table it will be another difficult game.

Having already faced tomorrows opposition twice, the first of which was abandoned after 80 minutes, we know how big of a test it'll be.

The first meeting between the two sides this season came on a Friday night under the lights, well for the most part. Until half of the floodlights at the Skye Direct Stadium went out leading to the game being rearranged.

At the time a goal from Nathan Whitehead gave Sheffield the advantage in the 72nd minute. Despite having the advantage, the scores were reset to 0-0 and the match replayed from the first minute a few weeks later.

The rearranged fixture ended in defeat for Golcar, ending 4-0 with goals from Harry Spooner, Alex Hardwick, Nathaniel Crofts and Blake Freeman.

Hardwick may be a familiar name to some readers as he is currently the third highest scorer in the NCEL Premier Division, and has scored in his last two games, so may take some stopping.

Whitehead, who has previously caused us problems, is also in fine scoring form, bagging in three of his last four games.

The hosts have managed to score 12 in their last four games and only conceding two during that period. In comparison to Golcar who have managed to net on six occasions and also concede six over the same period.

There is no doubt it will be an interesting affair as we look to finish November on a high, before going into the busy month of December.

It would be great to see as many of you as possible there supporting Joe and the lads against the oldest team in the world of football.

Up The Village!
