MATCH PREVIEW | Golcar United vs Sheffield FC (A)

MATCH PREVIEW | Golcar United vs Sheffield FC (A)

Jack Howarth6 Mar - 17:00

A trip against the oldest football club in the world awaits!

Following on from our draw on Tuesday night against Horbury, Golcar make the trip to Sheffield FC tomorrow.

'The Club' are widely recognised as the world's oldest football team that are still playing football, having been founded way back in 1857.

The hosts find themselves in pursuit of the playoff positions, only outside of them by four points but they do have four games in hand on fifth placed Handsworth. Despite this, they come into the game on the back of three losses in their last four games.

It poses to be an opportunity for The Weavers to pick up some points on the road, a feat which we have found difficult so far only collecting 12 this season. On the flip side, the hosts have the second best home record in the league, only behind top of the table Liversedge.

When we clashed early on in the season, the game was abandoned around the 80th minute whilst Sheffield were leading 1-0. This was due to a lighting issue at the Skye Direct Stadium. The rearranged fixture saw the visitors come away with a 4-0 victory curtesy of goals from Harry Spooner, Alexander Hardwick, Nathaniel Crofts and Blake Freeman.

The Weavers will be hoping to take their revenge and add to the good run of form.

Captain, George Doyle, found himself on the scoresheet on Tuesday, making it 19 for the season for the striker. He will be hoping to add to his tally and make it 20 for the season, this weekend.

The hosts have their very own marksman, as Hardwick has bagged 26 so far, but is without a goal in his last three appearances. Golcar have only conceded 11 goals since the turn of the year, with these promising defensive performances we will be hoping to add to his goalless run.

Another key player for Sheffield has been Connor Cutts. The midfielder came through the ranks at Sheffield United and has had a strong campaign so far. Featuring in all but one of the league games so far, he has been central to their success.

The hosts will be without striker, Luke Mangham due to his red card against Barton two games ago. The forward has scored three goals in seven appearances this season.

Hopefully, Golcar find some much needed points to pull ourselves away from the relegation conversations and ultimately add to our strong run of form.

We hope to see as many of you make the journey to the worlds oldest football team and help cheer Joe and the lads onto a successful away day.

Up The Village!
