Golcar United's Northern Counties East League League Cup campaign is now over.
After a well earned 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon against Pickering Town at the Skye Direct Stadium, Joe Scarz's side's heads turned to the League Cup where in the last round - they won convincingly at Barton Town with a 4-1 victory.
It was now time for third round, another tie away from home and Frickley Athletic were the oppenents.
The Weavers had already put 12 past Frickley home and away this season with both games being some of the highlights of the season so far. Could they do the same in the League Cup?
Scarz made several changes to his team with Rico Kilbourn being the most notably absentee. Masai Arbouin started along with Finley Hunt, two names who have been on the bench over the past few games.
Throughout the whole game, there were little chances for both sides but Frickley looked the better team and looked to want it more than the Golcar.
The hosts' Lucas Robinson hit the side netting in the 25th minute but only 60 seconds later, Josh Lindley opened the scoring slotting the ball through Hugo Bennett's legs to put Frickley in front.
For the remainder of the first half, the home side continued to have chances but young keeper Bennett did well to keep the score at 1-0 as the game entered half time.
Golcar really needed to turn up in the second half but Frickley added to their woes early on with Lindley netting again to get his brace and put his side one foot into the next round after some good work by Robinson.
There were some changes made during the second half for the Village but they all struggled to make a real impact including new signing Mohammed Fakri who had joined on a 28 day work experience from Huddersfield Town earlier in the day.
There were very few chances in the second 45 for either side but Frickley defended well and kept Golcar out and saw themselves into the Quarter Finals with a 2-0 win.
Next up for the weavers is a trip to the oldest football club in the world Sheffield FC as we return to league action. A tough test awaits with the oppenents sat in fourth place. We look forward to seeing some of you there. Your support is always appreciated!
Up the Village!
