MATCH REPORT | Golcar United vs Barton Town (H)

Weavers' home streak ends at the hands of impressive Barton Town

It was five home wins in a row for Golcar prior to Barton Town's visit to the Skye Direct Stadium.

A 2-0 win at the weekend against Penistone Church the fifth, and with that behind the squad, attention turned to a Tuesday night under the lights against play-off chasing opposition.

The Swans were in fantastic form, with five wins in a row and three clean sheets in their last three.

The Golcar starting eleven featured two changes with Harry Stead and Jackson Durham coming into the team for Rhomani Murray and Aston Wilson.

There was also a welcome return to the team for Ryan Wadsworth who was on the bench.

Early on, the visitors burst the bubble at the Skye Direct Stadium.

A corner from the left-hand side headed back across goal and into the far corner by centre-back Henry Moore.

Following this the Weavers grew into the game and started to find Doyle, Flynn and Russon especially who caused problems.

Some link-up between the three of them almost produced an equaliser after 25 minutes as Doyle switched play for Russon who put in a searching ball right across the area that just missed Flynn who was desperately trying to reach it for a tap-in.

Another cross this time from the left with Kilbourn which caused problems but finding the crown of Wilkinson's head causing the ball to lift into the air before it was cleared.

It remained even until the break with chances spurned by Golcar but Barton looking dangerous on the break.

The first 15 minutes of the second half continued in this fashion until the Swans' top scorer Lewis Stephens missed a huge chance one-on-one with Stead, scuffing his effort over the bar as he looked to dink over the keeper.

Swiftly after though Stephens received a gift from a mix-up at the back between Stead and Wadsworth, presenting the striker with an open goal from 5 yards which he couldn't miss and put the visitors into a commanding 2-0 lead.

Barton had the better of the game after this and should've made it three amid a goal-line scramble featuring at least two goal-saving clearances from Golcar defenders, still battling with all the vigor they had at the start.

Unfortunately they weren't able to stop a third going in through substitute Matthew Stafford with ten to go, wrapping up the game for Anthony Bowsley's side.

The game ended 3-0 to Barton Town, who climb to second and maintain their strong push towards the play-offs.

For Golcar, it’s a frustrating night, but with four fixtures left, there’s still time to respond.

Next up is a tough away trip to champions Liversedge on Friday night, see you there!
