The opening fixture of the season is one that is bookmarked by football fans alike and is a day that is synonymous with joy, prospect and optimism.
All those boxes were being ticked at The Skye Direct Stadium up until the 92nd minute where substitute Patrick Sykes slotted a home a penalty to break all Golcar fans hearts.
From the offset Golcar were sharp, scoring in the 2nd minute which was disallowed by the linesman for offside.
Other than that, the opening 10 minutes ended up being quite scrappy where both sides were just finding their feet and getting rid of the rust that has built up over the off season.
Despite there not being much to separate the two sides in the first half, the away side went into half time a goal to the good.
Jack Normanton broke the deadlock in the 34rd minute as his cross come shot looped over Harry Stead.
Just before the half time whistle, Stead was called into action again. The Golcar number one managed to pull off a superb one on one save which looked certain to put Campion two goals to the good.
Just like the first half, the Weavers started quickly as Ryan Hall turned past his defender and saw his shot narrowly go wide.
Throughout the game, Hall had a growing influence and made a key involvement in securing an equaliser. He was played in behind the Campion defence, opted to go around the keeper who subsequently brought him down leading to a Golcar penalty.
The skipper Ryan Wadsworth stood up to take the penalty and smashed it home confidently to secure our first goal of the 2025/26 campaign.
With the scoreline level, the momentum was with Golcar. The majority of the second half was dominated by the home side who made use of possession by creating many clear cut chances which just would not find their way into the Campion net.
However, it was Campion who managed to leave with all three points on the opening day after a second penalty of the game being given. Sykes dispatched the spot kick to seal the deal for the visitors.
