MATCH REPORT | Golcar United vs Frickley Athletic (A)

Samuel Dearnley13 Sep - 19:00

Second half onslaught gives Weavers memorable victory

The last time we scored six in a game was the 26th October 2024 against Winterton Rangers, with the help of a George Doyle hat-trick.

Almost a year later, Doyle scores two as we beat Frickley Athletic 6-1.

Wary optimism has been the feeling ahead of a lot of games this season, but the build-up to this one encapsulated that feeling the most.

Thankfully today the lads put on a show way beyond anyone's expectations and it began early.

Doyle got on the scoresheet back in green and black when he tapped home in the 3rd minute after winning the ball off a dawdling Kyle Wass in the Frickley goal.

The perfect start for Joe Skarz and his men after a disappointing midweek away display, but it quickly got even better.

Great work from Rion Arbouin down the right gave him space to cross and his ball in was brilliant forcing William Jenkinson to head into his own net, giving The Village a two-goal lead just fifteen minutes in.

Unfortunately Rion's first start came to an end just before the half-hour, feeling something in his knee, making way for the in-form Jerome Bedeau.

Frickley grew into the game more towards the end of the half, which had fizzled out.

The best chance came from Robinson squaring, on the floor, right across the area but no one was there to tap it in.

That first half was almost perfect for us, and it was similar when we met Frickley last season, leading 3-0 at the break.

But in similar fashion to that game The Blues came out fast in the second period and found a way back in when Thomas Alngohuro's long-range effort took a slight deflection before flying into the top corner.

Zach Rushworth had been barely involved in the game up to this point but the forward, just three minutes later, found his way into the area and skipped inside onto his weaker left side to strike the ball home at the near post.

Frickley collapsed after this, and the goal only ignited Rushworth who added to his tally shortly after, when substitute Bedeau won the ball in the area and was unselfish enough to pass to the forward, who tapped in for a brace, showing what he had shown in pre-season.

The onslaught commenced as Bedeau got reward for his earlier unselfishness, slotting under Wass following a pinpoint pass from Masai Arbouin.

To finish it off Doyley made it six, finishing a penalty won by excellent work from Rico Kilbourn.

Easily the best performance of the season and The Village make it now two wins in three.

Knaresborough Town make the long trip south-west to The Skye Direct Stadium, for our next game on Tuesday night.

We hope to see as many of you there as possible to maintain our strong September form!

Up The Village!
