Coming into March off the back of a successful February, The Village were hoping to keep up their good run of form, to keep pulling themselves away from the relegation places.
With a few alterations to the starting 11, Harry Stead found himself back in goal after impressing up front in a cameo last Tuesday. Also Ryan Wadsworth made his return as well as Alfie Wilkinson partnering him in the middle of the park.
Last night, The Weavers got off to the worst possible start to help continue that run of form, conceding in the first minute of the game.
After only 23 seconds, a switch from the left hand side found Ryan Makings in space as he slotted in the opener. Golcar had more than enough time to get themselves back into the game though.
Despite the early setback, The Weavers piled the pressure on the hosts. Kallum Reid was central to most of the good chances we created throughout the evening.
The full back managed to find an abundance of space down the right hand side on multiple occasions, putting some dangerous balls which were begging for a touch towards goal from the 1st minute to the 90th.
A couple half chances from Kiero Lawrence and Wadsworth were the closest we came in the first half hour. But with no real chances testing Paul Day in the goal. In fact the biggest chance came to Makings, looking to add to his tally. Thankfully, on his return between the sticks, Stead produced a super save at full stretch to keep the deficit at just the one.
Our pressure finally was made to count, as George Doyle mustered up a lovely finish after a long ball over the top was brought down beautifully, before brushing it past the keeper into the far corner. The captain made back to back games where he got on the score sheet.
After the goal, there was nothing between the two sides as we went in to half time at level pegging.
After the break, The Weavers came out as the better side, it looked certain we would take the lead. Reid and Jerome Bedeau proved to be a strong link up down the right, creating numerous chances in the early stages.
By far and away the best chance of the half fell to Oliver Russon, after Ashley Flynn got onto a ball in the channel, managed to round the keeper and squared it to Russon whose effort struck the bar.
Some last ditch defending from Horbury kept the game all square, as every ball into box was either intercepted, cleared or blocked. Waves and waves of pressure were met with no success.
The final 15 minutes was more end to end, as Horbury grew into the game. The hosts had some great chances from distance and one around the 80th minute which Stead made a great save to tip round the post.
Carlos Rodrigues had a great chance at the death but fired well over the bar. Straight after that, Bedeau still had a chance to win it, but his effort also kept rising over the crossbar.
A point earned for both sides as they look to keep their places in the Northern Counties East League for next season.
Thank you to those travelling fans who made the short journey last night, we hope to see as many of you as possible make the trip on Saturday to Sheffield FC, the World's Oldest Football Club.
