Today brought another home game for Golcar as this jam-packed end-of-season run continues.
A rare sight as, for once, the Skye Direct pitch had some sun to bathe in, drying itself off from the torrential weather the two days before, with some great work from our volunteers keeping the game on.
The Weavers' team sheet again featured a couple of debutants.
Starting at right wing-back was Rhomani Murray, who joined from Doncaster Rovers on a work-experience loan just yesterday.
On the bench was forward Emre Can, who joined from Guiseley on a dual-registration last Friday.
As the game kicked off there was a clear difference in intensity from Tuesday night, perhaps due to quantity of games but nevertheless it was a slow start from Golcar.
Inside five minutes a huge chance fell the way of Lennon O'Grady but the midfielder blazed his close range effort over the crossbar.
This continued for a large portion of the first period, with more chances falling the way of Penistone.
Matthew Lee was a particular threat out-wide for Church.
The diminutive winger using his close control to good effect and playing a big part in the visitors' chance creation.
It wasn't until the half-hour mark that Golcar had a proper chance, as a pull-back came to Oliver Russon on the edge but the effort was blocked by a sliding tackle.
The referee's half-time whistle brought the end of a very quiet first half.
No changes were made by either manager at the break but there was a huge change in the Weavers' intensity.
Straight away Rico Kilbourn just knocking and running past his man and putting in a cross which resulted in half a chance in the box.
Quickly, the Weavers were rewarded when in-form Ashley Flynn grabbed a goal. His predatory striker instincts on show as he lifted the ball over Harry Ambler in the Penistone goal and into the back of the net.
Continuing to push, more chances were created.
The final fifteen minutes were action packed, great work from substitute Ty Duane set the Weavers on the way to the Penistone goal. Lovely combination play between Doyle and Russon nearly got the former through, but a vital intervention prevented the chance.
In the latter stages of the game with Penistone pushing forward, various Golcar chances were spurned or saved by Ambler who had a great game in goal.
One fell to George Doyle whose header at the back-post was straight at the keeper. Then a few minutes later Flynn was played through and took it round the keeper before he somehow recovered to make a diving save low to his left.
Eventually the pressure told when Doyle took down Russon's pass over the top, on his chest, muscling the defender away then placing the ball into the corner to wrap up the three points with a very fitting goal.
Another home victory – now five in a row – puts the Village in 10th, leapfrogging today's opponents.
Next up is a chance to make it six on Tuesday night against in-form promotion hopefuls Barton Town.
See you then, Up The Village!
