Golcar face first defeat of February

After two wins and nine goals in February, the 20th day of the month brought The Weavers back down to earth.

The squad saw the welcome return of Zac Rushworth to the bench as Ashley Flynn dropped out of the squad on holiday.

Expectedly, the home side took the early initiative, trapping The Weavers in their own half.

Quickly though Skarz’s side grew into the game.

By the twenty-minute mark, Golcar were the better side and George Doyle got his first chance of the game receiving a pull-back from full-back Isaac Baldwin but had his strike blocked and eventually cleared.

The best chance of the half fell to Rion Arbouin, who found himself one-on-one after The Brewers backline misjudged a long ball, the stand-in striker rushed his effort though dragging a volley wide as it dropped down from over his shoulder.

Despite the missed chance Golcar continued to create.

Jerome Bedeau got on the end of a cross from the left, nodding it back across goal towards in-form midfielder Oliver Russon whose bicycle kick attempt was saved.

Rion then went on a mazy run through the middle, exchanged passes with Russon, and saw his effort saved once again.

Golcar pressure continued but we needed to make it count because Tadcaster had to improve in the second half.

Unfortunately, unable to add one to the scoresheet, the half ended 0-0 but not before a warning from Tadcaster as a header drifted just wide in a big chance for the home side on the half-time whistle.

Despite the expectation that Tadcaster would improve, the second half started much the same.

There was a lot of Golcar possession in the Tadcaster final third. Chances fell for Russon on the edge of the box and Bedeau off-balance in the area before The Brewers struck.

On the hour mark, a dangerous corner eventually ricocheted out to Miguel Cassama who made no mistake. He fired a volley goalwards from 12 yards which bounced off a defender and into the roof of the net.

At this point the game changed, the home crowd were up and Tadcaster began to show why they are play-off pushers.

Ten minutes later, Desmond Okoro, fresh off the bench, scored to make it 2-0 with a low strike from inside the D.

Despite some handbags later on, the game never really ignited again after the second goal, as The Weavers' unbeaten February came to an end.

Despite the defeat, Golcar's league position remains unchanged in 16th as we look forward to two home games next week facing Bottesford Town and Albion Sports.

See you there, Up The Village!
