After a three game unbeaten run in the league, consisting of a win and two draws, our attention turned to Tadcaster Albion.
Despite a subpar performance at Frickley Athletic in the NCEL League Cup last week, optimism was still high that The Weavers could get something out of last nights game.
A battled performance last night at the Skye Direct Stadium saw Golcar United pick up their first point of December after conceding another late goal.
It really has been the tale of the season so far, as that is now the 7th time this season that we have conceded in the last five minutes of a game.
Just like most of our home games we saw another quick start, Kallum Reid put a wicked low cross into the box which top scorer George Doyle volleyed goalward, but his effort was blocked on the line.
The first 30 minutes consisted of a dominant display from Golcar, with Callum Petch playing a key role in the forward line.
Most of our key chances came from through balls by Petch who on numerous occasions got our wingers in behind The Brewers backline. The first of which saw Jerome Bedeau miss a one on one chance which Alfie Burnett saved well.
It wasn't all one way traffic, as Tadcaster hit the post through Oliver Norman on the twenty minute mark.
With the game still goalless at this stage and Golcar on top, it all seemed to be going well until Callum Petch mistimed his tackle, going over the ball and taking down Spencer Harris. The referee had no choice but to show the attacker a straight red.
Even after being sent down to ten, The Village still looked lively.
Only minutes after the red card, Doyle saw an effort in the six yard box saved well. But the striker didn't have long to wait before breaking the deadlock.
A super corner from Rico Kilbourn, on his return, picked out Doyle who tapped home the opener right on the stroke of half time.
Straight after the break, Doyle had a golden opportunity to double our lead after Bedeau picked him out in the box but the ball just got caught under his feet, so the striker was unable to add to his 15 goals this season.
Not even ten minutes after, a cross from Kilbourn was spilled by the keeper, but Bedeau was unable to put the loose ball away from only a few yards out.
With the man advantage, Tadcaster grew into the game in the late stages of the second half which meant Hugo Bennett was called into action on numerous occasions. The young keeper managed to keep us in front after making some solid saves.
Sadly, The Brewers finally managed to find a breakthrough, with Desmond Okoro converting from close range after Golcar fail to clear their lines.
Even though ten men Golcar were pegged back, they still looked to find a late winner with a huge chance falling to Rico in the very last minute. Daniel Naidole managed to squeeze a pass through the defence, which Rico just couldn't put past Burnett.
The match finished 1-1, and it was heartbreak yet again for The Weavers.
It was a spirited battle from Golcar who despite being down to ten were the better side, and showed great character throughout. Hopefully we will be able to take that into Saturdays away game against Handsworth.
Congratulations to our joint Man of the Match, Kallum Reid and Jerome Bedeau both chosen by our matchday sponsor, Standard Fireworks.
Thank you also to last nights match ball sponsor, Woodcock & Wilson Ltd.
We hope to see as many of you make the trip to Sheffield to back Joe Skarz and the lads to a good result.
Up The Village!
