Having not recorded a win in the league since November and only managing to win once away from home in the league this season, Golcar finally put an end to their drab records.
An emphatic and enjoyable performance at the Meridian Stadium saw The Weavers leave will all three points after beating Thackley 5-2.
Joe Skarz made numerous changes from the defeat against Knaresborough two weeks ago, even changing formation which worked a treat. Making five changes to the starting 11, Golcar shifted to a back three with Kallum Reid and Isaac Baldwin as wingbacks, making the side look much more assured at the back and fluid in transition.
The Village produced one of the best starts of the season, absolutely dominating the first 15 minutes.
Only 2 minutes in the returning Oliver Russon whipped a wicked a cross into the area from a free kick which fell to the George Doyle at the back post who dragged his effort wide from a promising area.
Thankfully The Village didn't rue that early chance as Ashley Flynn poked home after a scramble in the box from a corner to give us the lead after ten minutes.
The pressure continued from Golcar with the entirety of the front line linking up on a number of occasions and creating multiple chances.
It looked for certain that the Weavers would double their lead but, somehow against the run of play, Thackley managed to find an equaliser through Toby Marriott who latched onto a cross that wasn't cleared away.
That didn't stop Golcar though.
Reid did superbly in his new advanced role to put a low cross into the area from the right, which picked out Flynn who dispatched expertly to double his tally for the day and restore the lead.
Only minutes after, Doyle was slipped in behind the Thackley backline, beating the offside he coolly went past the keeper and squared it to Russon who slotted home on his return.
The Weavers went into the break at 1-3 up, hoping to see out the final 45 minutes and secure a vital three points.
In true Golcar fashion, it was never going to be a straightforward task.
The hosts got one back, with Marriott also scoring a brace after a blocked shot sat up nicely for him as he volleyed home into the top corner, with twenty minutes still to play.
At this stage the game became wide open, with chances at both ends of the pitch. Most notably, Marriott had an opportunity to level the game and claim his hattrick but he scuffed his shot and debutant Aston Wilson saved well.
The time kept ticking, Golcar were missing chances to put the game to bed, Russon had the Thackley backline on strings but just couldn't find the net on an number of occasions.
With only four minutes left on the clock, Doyle beat the keeper in a foot race, through on goal he unselfishly lays off substitute Rion Arbouin who doubled the advantage, killing the game off.
The Weavers hadn't finished yet, as Reid got in behind the Thackley backline and was brought down, giving the referee no choice but to give a penalty.
Doyle stepped up to take the spot kick, where he dispatched it expertly, making it 17 this season for the skipper.
An important three points on the road puts us three points above the drop zone with a positive goal difference.
Joe Skarz and the lads will be hoping to back it back league wins for the first time since October and putting some real distance between us and the relegation places, on Tuesday night against Eccleshill United.
It would be great to see as many of you as possible on our return to the Skye Direct Stadium after what has been a long time away.
Thanks to all those that made the journey today, as always Up The Village!
