After our loss away from home against Eccleshill at the start of September, the Weavers have managed to string together a superb run of form. The Village have managed to produce a five game unbeaten spell, and courtesy of another win yesterday against Wombwell that has been extended to a six game unbeaten run.
During this period, Golcar have become synonymous with fast starts, and last night was no different.
After a period of pressure and an abundance of crosses in the first 10 minutes, Rico Kilbourn managed to play a wicked cross into the back post where Callum Petch kept him composure and smashed home our first goal of the evening.
Having all the momentum, the Weavers maintained this pressure and the chances kept coming. Bright prospect Riley McLachlan, on his first start for the club, looked extremely sharp during this period seeing a number of chances not go his way.
The best of which came around the 15 minute mark where he looked certain to double our lead, but got his shot all wrong, from 10 yards out.
As the half progressed, the visitors had some chances of their own. Near the end of the first half, Nicholas Guest found himself one on one with Harry Stead, who not for the first this season produced a worldie of a save to keep us in front at half time.
The start of the second half was extremely scrappy, but the Wellers managed to take control of the early stages. Harry Stead was once again called into action on numerous occasions, and with the pressure building it looked inevitable that the visitors would find an equaliser.
On the hour mark, Liam Owen managed to find that equaliser by heading home a cross which wasn't dealt with by the Golar defence.
Not long after, last nights man of the match, Harry Stead, was called into action once again in another one on one situation and produced another magnificent save to keep the game level.
At this stage of the game, it looked like a throwback to the start of the season. Another game where we just couldn't take our chances and it would come back to bite us.
But no, the Weavers showed great character and with some quality cameos from the bench we managed to get ourselves back in front just after 80 minutes.
Jerome Bedeau, who continued his great run of form by beating his man on the right hand side, the Wombwell defender went down in the box to try and win a free kick. Whilst on the ground handled the ball and the referee pointed to the spot.
George Doyle stepped up and calmly slotted his effort in the bottom left to score his eight of the season and put the Weavers back in front.
Joe Skarz looked to his bench once again, bringing on Kiero Lawerence, and made the switch to a back five to help see the game out.
Absorbing the pressure well, the ball was cleared out, on the break Kilbourn managed to pick out Bedeau who was brought down illegally to win us another penalty.
Doyle stepped up again and like a carbon copy of his first, he placed the ball in the bottom left again, ensuring all three points for Golcar.
The striker bagged his ninth of the campaign and once again secured his trademark brace.
With all three points confirmed, Golcar make it three runs on the bounce in all competitions, seeing us rise to 14th in the league table.
The Weavers are back in action on Friday night against Liversedge at the Skye Direct Stadium so make sure to get down and support the lads in what will be a thrilling contest, we hope to see as many of you as possible.
Thank you again for all your continued support!
