Match Report | Pickering Town vs Golcar United

Jack Howarth6 Aug - 16:00

Another frustrating result makes it three loses out of three for the Weavers, with the game finishing 3-2 for Pickering.

Following our exit from the FA Cup on Saturday, the Weavers were set on bouncing back and producing our first three points of the season.

Having beaten Pickering Town on both occasions last season, Golcar travelled in their numbers with a great sense of optimism ahead of the fixture. With the performances in the opening two games of the season being relatively good it felt like the away fixture was a perfect chance to get our season on track.

Unfortunately, that wasn't to be.

The opening stages of the game were cagey but the Pikes started the better as Dominic Weston looked certain to fire home an early opener for the hosts from close distance, but Harry Stead managed to pull off a world class save to deny the number nine.

It was only ten minutes after when the hosts found the opening goal of the evening. A nice bit of football down the left flank saw a low cross directed into the back of the net by Golcar defender Harvey Coates.

Despite the unfortunate own goal, Golcar didn't look phased. They produced some really good efforts by Ryan Hall and Harvey Oddy respectively, who both missed one on one chances.

Then just before the close of the half, George Brown nodded home a second for Pickering, after a floated cross from the right hand side where he rose highest in the box.

The Weavers went into half time with a 2-0 deficit to overcome, and with a double change at the break they came out all guns a blazing.

With the introduction of Jay Smith and Jerome Bedeau, the visitors produced two huge chances within the first 5 minutes of the half. The first of which was a header from the skipper Ryan Wadsworth which was tremendously saved.

Then the resulting corner was nodded onto the post, it was looking like it wasn't going to be our evening.

Until, in the 60th minute a corner from Wadsworth was turned into the Pickering goal by one of their own players. The momentum was with the Weavers and it looked certain an equaliser was around the corner.

The side were massively helped by the introduction of the other remaining substitutions, especially Deco Fatih.

Sadly for the Weavers, substitute Souleymane Coulibaly slotted home a third for the home side in the 83rd minute killing off all hopes of a remarkable comeback.

Not long after, the Pickering captain, Connor Avison received a second yellow and conceded a free kick in a dangerous position. Waddy was stood over the ball and in the 87th minuted converted in spectacular fashion.

The free kick was powered with precision into the top corner and with still 5 minutes to play Golcar looked likely to pounce against ten men Pickering.

Despite their best efforts, the referees final whistle brought to a close a spectacle which saw two sides play some great football in parts, with all the points going to the home side.

The Weavers have no opportunity to let their heads drop however as it is a quick turn around now for Joe Skarz's side.

Golcar are back in action on Friday night against Sheffield FC at the Skye Direct Stadium, so get down and cheer the lads on. With performances like the last three games it won't be long until we reap the rewards.
