Following a 7-Day approach, Harry Stead has decided to accept an offer to join Tadcaster Albion and brings an end to his 7 year stay at Golcar United.

The immensely popular goalkeeper signed for the Weavers when the club participated in the NWCFL Division One North and played a huge part in our promotion season and beyond. Steady has produced many fine displays and countless unbelievable saves that will live long in the memory.

Not only was Steady a fantastic servant, he is also a fantastic person and will be missed by everyone at the club- which speaks volumes about him. We’re sure many fans, players and volunteers will miss his infectious smile and laugh on a match day. Steady leaves with Golcar United’s best wishes and will always be welcomed back as a Golcar United legend.

There are not many characters like Steady, and we’re lucky to have had him represent our club.

“Steady departs after 7 years of great service. He is a really top lad who will be sorely missed in the changing room.

I have a huge amount of respect for him having played with and also managed him. He played a huge part in our promotion season and I will never forget a key moment in the Play Off Final vs Holker Old Boys, where in the 94th minute, he plucked the ball out of the air and relieved us from an immense amount of pressure!

It has been a really tough one, after having received a phone call from Ryan Qualter (Tadcaster Albion manager) this week asking about Steady’s situation. I am well aware how much Steady wants to play so felt it was only right that he spoke to them. He’s at an age in his career where he wants to be playing every week. With us having Hugo Bennett doing really well, we couldn’t guarantee Steady that, so he accepted the opportunity to play week in, week out for them.

As I said, I have a huge amount of respect for Harry and we’ve been really honest with each other throughout the process- and hope he feels the same way about me as I do him.

He will always be welcome back to the club and we wish him nothing but the best. He’s a great lad and we’ll miss him.”
