Adam Field and Daniel Naidole become Joe Skarz's first 2 retained players

One thing I really like about Joe is that he is very clear on what he wants in terms of his demands and his way of playing

The Weavers are thrilled to announce that popular players Daniel Naidole and Adam Field have signed a contract to keep them at the Skye Direct Stadium for another season.

Adam and Dan are Joe Skarz’s first 2 retentions from last season’s squad. A pleased Joe Skarz said:

“I’m delighted Dan and Fieldy have committed to the club for another season. They are players I know really well and offer vital experience within the group.
Nads’ (Daniel Naidole) primary position for me will be as a ‘Number 9’; there’s not many players that have the technique to score all types of goals and the ability to attack crosses like Dan.

Fieldy is ‘Mr Consistent’ and a very good defender for this level, and is versatile enough to cover a few positions.”

We caught up with both players at the Skye Direct Stadium:

Adam, Danny, it’s great to see you both again and we hope you’re enjoying your break.

Adam, I know you struggled with a niggling injury during last season and missed your calming presence at the back at times. How is your body feeling now?

My body and injury are absolutely fine. I’ve started doing some extensive rehab and I’m now back to full fitness. I wasn’t fully fit towards the back end of the season but I feel like I’m in a good place to start the new season.

Danny, you too, missed a chunk of the season having been injured early into the season but featured more towards the end. Are you fit again?

It’s always nice to have a little break but I’m feeling great and really looking forward to starting pre-season again!

Since we last saw you, things have changes in terms of the management. Are you looking forward to working with Joe and Frankie as they take on their new roles?

Adam Field: First of all, I’d like to acknowledge the great job Ash and Gav have done over their 10/11 year reign, and leave the club in a stable position – they did a tremendous job. But it’s great that Skarzy has taken the role and the fact we know him from previous. He has great knowledge on the game and is a fantastic coach who will bring new ideas. I like that he is very clear on what he wants. On Frankie, he’s a familiar and friendly face and well known at the club. He too brings a lot of experience and with that comes calmness and support.

Daniel Naidole: Firstly, I’d like to echo Adam in thanking Ash and Gav for their efforts with us during their time here. Secondly, I’m really excited about working with Joe and Frankie. I’ve played with Frankie since I was about 16 years old, in various divisions and then again when he came to Golcar and know what he’s all about. A real football man. And the same with Skarzy from our time at Golcar too. It’s a new era and I can’t wait to get playing for them both!

You both know Joe and Frankie from your time in football, and also having played together at Golcar United. What in particular are you most looking forward to working under them?

AF: One thing I really like about Joe is that he is very clear on what he wants in terms of his demands and his way of playing. I’m excited at his ideas and how we wants us to play having spoken to him at length since he took on the role. Not only that, we have a great relationship off the field too. On Frankie, I’ve played with him a lot over our careers and he’s a real ‘people person’. If you have a bad day or game, he’s the perfect man to vent to and be a voice of reason.

DN: Again, I absolutely agree with Adam and I think I’ll speak for a lot of players when I say that we’re just excited to get going with some fresh ideas.

Joe has mentioned he values experience in players to go alongside ‘younger’ legs.
What do you feel you bring to the team, and players around you?

AF: I’ve been quite lucky to win a lot in non-league career, so I bring that experience of how to win things. I believe I’m composed in all situations, I have a good understanding of the game and I try and say the right things at the right times, especially for the younger players who I can pass on a lot of my experience to.

DN: I like to still think I’ve got my legs; but I definitely bring that experience from playing a lot at the division above and at this level for the last few years. I know what this level is about and absolutely agree that it’s really important to have players with experience to help, not only guide them, but to also keep them on their toes and keep their feet on the ground.

Finally, you’ve signed a contact to stay at the Skye Direct Stadium, much to the delight of the fans, no doubt. Was it an easy decision for you?

AF: Yes, absolutely. It was never really in doubt. I certainly plan to see my career out here at Golcar (if they’ll have me!). I really like it at the club; the support is tremendous. Whether it be from the people at the club or the fans. When I weigh up all those things, it was a no brainer to sign again. Like I say, I hope to finish my playing career here and hopefully step up into management when the time is right.

DN: Without a doubt. Obviously over the summer, you get calls and messages from other managers but I knew where my head was at already. Especially after speak to Joe, Frankie and Ben- it wasn’t ever in my plans to not stay. I love it here.

Thank you both for your time today. We’re looking forward to seeing you both back in action!

You can see both Adam Field and Daniel Naidole in our pre-season fixtures, starting with Emley AFC at home on Friday 4th July- 7:45pm KO.
