James North, more commonly known as "Northy" to the Golcar United faithful, commits his footballing future with Golcar United for next season. The popular local lad signs on for his 2nd season for the First Team having come through the ranks as a junior and then for our reserve team before his breakthrough season last year.
We caught up with James:
Welcome back, Northy. We're glad to see you back in the green and black this season. Are you looking forward to the new challenge under Joe and Frankie?
Yes, definitely! We're back in pre-season training and it's very clear that fitness is going to be key for us this year with the managers' ideas of us being a high pressing, hard working team and I can't wait to get going!
What have you been up to since the end of last season?
I'm also a cricketer and play for Golcar Cricket Club so have been enjoying my time playing but I'm keen to ensure I'm fit so have been working on that too in my spare time.
You've been training a few weeks now, how are you feeling about Joe's plans for the team and yourself?
I've had a few chats with Joe and his plans are clear, we're going to be a high pressing and hard working team; a mix of energetic young lads with the experience older heads which is exciting to me. On a personal note, he's said he's going to give me my chance and it's down to me to take it. I back myself to do just that!
It's probably fair to say you didn't get as much game time as you'd have liked last season- have you set any personal goals for this year?
No, last year was my first year at this level so as much as I wanted to play more it was more about me finding my feet and getting a feel for the standard. Now I know where I'm at, I feel I can kick on and play more than I did and I'm looking forward to enjoying it again.
Finally, as a 'Villager' yourself, what does it mean to you to play for Golcar United?
It's means a lot to me. Obviously, being a local lad and the fact I'm able to represent my village at this level is brilliant for me. I know a lot of the fans who come watch as mates and I'm proud to turn out for this club in front of them. I can't wait to get going now!
Thanks for your time, Northy, and Good Luck for next season!
