Golcar United head to North Lincolnshire this Saturday at 3 pm—to face Barton Town on the banks of the Humber.
The icy chill of a Yorkshire winter has kept United out of action since defeat to Thackley in late December, with games at home to Albion Sports, Beverley Town and Pickering Town postponed to a later date. After an extended rest, Golcar will be hungry for three points to keep the heat on Silsden at the table’s summit.
It was Saturday’s away side who were victorious in the reverse fixture, when the Skye Direct Stadium played host to a 2-1 triumph for the Village—owing to goals from Ryan Hall and Callum Petch either side of an Ali Spencer Ayedemir equaliser for the travelling Swans.
Barton, who finished 14th in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division last season, currently occupies 13th place as they prepare to host Golcar this weekend at the EasyBuy stadium. Formed in 1995, Barton Town emerged as Barton Town Old Boys Football Club as a result of a merger between the original Barton Town and Barton Old Boys, joining the Lincolnshire league. However, they’ve officially been Barton Town, once more, since 2017.
In more recent years, the Swans have become a staple in the NCEL, having originally been promoted to the Premier Division in 2011. Barton are also former winners of the NCEL League Cup—beating Garforth Town 3-2 after extra time in a huge fixture at the Keepmoat Stadium, home of Doncaster Rovers.
Barton defeated Eccleshill United by 2 goals to nil last time out, a huge result that put to
bed a five-game winless streak. Golcar will be hoping to collect their first three points since their win at home to Campion on the 14th of December—with three points separating the Weavers and league leaders Silsden, the away side will be out to taste victory this weekend just off the Humber Bridge.
