After a painstakingly late defeat at the weekend, Golcar United’s focus shifts now to the cup.
After leading the game for the majority of the second half with Joe Clegg’s goal to thank, the Weavers were defeated at the death by Knaresborough Town, who grabbed the winning goal with mere seconds to spare—following up a slightly earlier equaliser.
Golcar return to the Skye Direct Stadium on Tuesday evening as they take a break from chasing Silsden at the league’s summit and instead aim to defeat them in the NCEL League Cup quarter-finals.
The Weavers have suffered two defeats already this season at the hands of Silsden, so they’ll be hungry for revenge going into this midweek cup face-off.
Founded in 1904, the same year as Golcar United, Silsden joined the NCEL in 2019. The league leaders are enjoying one of the finest spells in their history, with promotion looking likely this season. The club also managed a run to the fourth round of the FA Vase last season.
The Cobbydalers are having an all-timer season. The team to catch all season, the Keighley-based side, finds themselves five points clear at the top as the business end of the season draws near.
Leaving behind Parkgate and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in past rounds, the Weavers will be eyeing a return to winning ways as they look to continue their cup run.
Up the village!
